British Consultancy Charitable Trust (BCCT)
Reducing Poverty in the Developing World
BCCT was set-up as an International Development agency in 2005 with a primary mission to reduce poverty through the creation of sustainable livelihoods in the developing world by providing micro, small and medium sized enterprises with a full range of professional expertise. Equally committed to social enterprise BCCT collaborated in the field with other charities with similar objectives always looking for partnerships with UK and International charities. Working in over 46 countries, BCCT aimed to meet local aspirations rather than its own predetermined programmes.
The Review: In March 2011, BCCT conducted a review of the breadth of its operations and it was decided that the future expansion lay in seeking a collaborative venture with another similar charity. As a result, BCCT has transferred all its activities with the exception of Northern Uganda (see below) to the ownership and control of Challenges Worldwide from 01 April 2011. (www.challengesworldwide.com ), a similar but larger Edinburgh based charity, with identical aims and objectives.
Northern Uganda: This project is to assist the Agoro International Vocational Institute (AIVI) in the implementation of a vital ‘outreach’ programme for the region. This is at a crucial stage in its development and it was deemed appropriate that BCCT remained in place to continue negotiations with the local community and major International Organisations. BCCT have been working with AIVI since inception and retain a vast amount of knowledge relevant to its success.
